Tragedy struck in Kano State as a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ahmad, drowned in a well at Kwankwaso town in Madobi Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said the Fire Service received a distress call at about 12:15 p.m. and immediately deployed a rescue team to the scene.
The child was rescued unconscious and later handed over to Umar Shehu of the Madobi Police Division. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sani, also drowned after falling into a well at Karofawa Yan Kifi Village in Ghari Local Government Area.
Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening and was reported to the Ghari Fire Station, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team.
The victim was rescued unconscious and was later confirmed dead by his parents. He was subsequently handed over to the Village Head of Karofawa, Alhaji Musa Aliyu. The cause of the incident is also under investigation.
The Kano State Fire Service extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged residents to ensure that wells are properly covered to prevent similar tragedies.
