The Ebonyi State Police Command has announced the arrest of 1,733 suspects in connection with 913 criminal offences recorded across the state in 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Abakaliki by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joseph Ukandu.
According to Ukandu, the arrested suspects comprised 1,624 males and 109 females.
He said that following thorough investigations, 822 male and 22 female suspects linked to 462 criminal cases were charged to court.
Ukandu noted that major offences recorded during the year under review included murder, armed robbery, rape, theft and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
On operational achievements, he said the Command recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47 assault rifles, as well as 149 rounds of assorted ammunition.
He added that police operatives rescued nine kidnapped victims and recovered six stolen vehicles, including a Sino truck that was being dismantled for sale as scrap.
Ukandu quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, as commending officers of the Command and sister security agencies for their dedication and contributions to the recorded successes in 2025.
The commissioner, he said, pledged that the Command would consolidate on these achievements in 2026 by deepening community policing initiatives, strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies, enhancing officers’ capacity through in-house training, and promoting professionalism and civility in public interactions.
