The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has sanctioned 19 officers over cases of gross misconduct recorded in 2025.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos.
He said the disciplinary actions, which followed decisions by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, resulted in the dismissal of five officers, demotion of nine officers, while others received severe warning letters.
According to Bakare-Oki, the authority operates a robust check-and-balance system aimed at curbing misconduct among officers on the field.
He explained that LASTMA had strengthened its surveillance unit, with officers deployed daily in plain clothes to monitor the activities of traffic officials and identify violations of operational guidelines.
The general manager noted that feedback from the public on officers’ conduct is taken seriously, adding that investigations are promptly carried out whenever complaints are received.
He stressed that officers found guilty after due diligence are sanctioned accordingly, in line with established disciplinary procedures.
Bakare-Oki also reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring free flow of traffic across Lagos, particularly for motorists and commuters.
He said the authority remains focused on facilitating seamless movement of goods and persons in the state while maintaining professionalism and accountability among its officers.
