The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Mohammed, has imposed a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the state.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to the statement, the commissioner has ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strictly enforce the ban, warning that anyone found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Mohammed explained that the ban was aimed at protecting critical government and private infrastructure from damage and defacement, preventing environmental pollution, and ensuring the free flow of traffic and public safety during the festivities.
He also directed vulcanisers across the state to ensure that all used tyres are properly disposed of or removed from their premises at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorised access.
The commissioner further advised parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in the burning of tyres or any other unlawful activities during the New Year celebrations.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to ensuring a peaceful, safe and hitch-free New Year celebration for residents of the state.
