NCAA Approves Commencement of Scheduled Flights at Ibadan Airport

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the commencement of scheduled flight operations at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by the Special Adviser on Media to Gov. Seyi Makinde, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju.

According to Olanrewaju, the approval was conveyed in a letter dated Dec. 16 from the NCAA and addressed to the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

He said the letter approved the issuance of a provisional interim operational permit for the commencement of scheduled flight operations at the airport.

The NCAA explained that the approval followed a review of the updated status of safety-critical facilities, operational arrangements and mitigation measures, after recent developments at the aerodrome and additional information provided by FAAN.

Olanrewaju noted that the approval was the result of sustained efforts by the Oyo State Government to upgrade the airport to international standards.

He said the projects carried out at the airport included the extension and widening of the runway, improvement of airfield lighting, construction of a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage facility and the development of a new Protocol Lounge.
