Lagos Police Debunk Claims of Armed Invasion in Ajebo Community

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a report alleging that an armed group invaded Ajebo community near Agbowa in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The earlier report claimed that armed men stormed the community, destroyed properties, injured residents and fired shots. However, in a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the claims as mischievous, untrue and misleading.

Adebisi clarified that the incident was a land dispute between two families in the community, which escalated into a disturbance.

According to her, the situation prompted the immediate deployment of a joint police intervention team.

“Tactical squads, Police Mobile Force anti-riot units, conventional officers from Agbowa Division, Area N Command and other special units were mobilised to restore order. Normalcy was quickly achieved, allowing residents to continue their daily activities without further disruption,” she said.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, she added, ordered a prompt investigation into the incident.

“Preliminary findings confirmed that the disturbance resulted from a dispute between the families, not from an attack by gunmen as reported in the media,” she said.

Adebisi emphasised that no lives were lost, no one was injured, and no firearms were discharged during the incident, contrary to the circulating report.

She said peace had been fully restored, and leaders of the two families involved had been identified and invited to meet with the Commissioner of Police for further investigation.

“They have been cautioned to maintain peace, with a warning that any further unrest will attract the full weight of the law,” she said.

The spokesperson urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and advised journalists to uphold accuracy and responsibility in their reporting.

“CP Jimoh reassured Lagos residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and public order across the state,” she added.
