The former Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Signals (CCS), retired Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, has highlighted how his administration maximised available resources to significantly strengthen the Army’s communications infrastructure.
Ugbo stated this on Thursday during his passing-out parade as the 39th Commander of the Corps of Signals at the Parade Ground in Apapa, Lagos. He was succeeded by Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Abdullahi, the 40th CCS.
According to Ugbo, communication support across all operational theatres had been greatly enhanced over the past nine months.
“We have remained inventive, resourceful, and innovative in developing effective strategies that enabled us to achieve outstanding results,” he said.
He commended the resilience of network engineers, technicians, programmers, and analysts who ensured reliable communication systems even under difficult combat conditions.
Ugbo also praised the maintenance team for restoring several unserviceable equipment and urged officers to continually improve their technical and operational standards.
He noted that during his tenure, training manuals were reviewed to reflect modern advancements in telecommunications, ICT, and military operations. Artificial intelligence and data science tools, he added, were incorporated to improve training and efficiency.
The retired general emphasised that troop welfare was a key priority, citing initiatives such as personnel rotation, enhanced recreational facilities, and the establishment of the Nigerian Army Signals Cooperative Society to support staff welfare and development.
He expressed gratitude to the former Chief of Army Staff, now Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for his continuous support, and also appreciated his family for their encouragement throughout his service.
Ugbo called on officers to remain committed to professionalism, creativity, and the use of technology to strengthen the Army’s operational capabilities and national security.
