Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Thursday in Akure handed over brand-new Toyota vehicles to traditional rulers across the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare and dignity of the traditional institution.
Aiyedatiwa described the gesture as a milestone in the collective effort to strengthen and uplift every traditional stool in the state.
He commended the monarchs for their continuous support toward sustaining peace and stability in their respective domains.
“As custodians of our rich cultural heritage and vital links between the government and the grassroots, our administration acknowledges your significance and remains committed to your welfare,” he said.
The governor recalled that within his first year in office, his administration completed the long-abandoned secretariat project for traditional rulers and ensured the consistent payment of the statutory five per cent allocation to traditional institutions from local government funds.
He announced that all Grade ‘A’ Obas would receive 2025 model Toyota Fortuner SUVs, while Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas would later get Toyota Corolla Cross vehicles of the same year, describing them as symbols of honour and respect.
Aiyedatiwa appealed for the continued cooperation of the monarchs and assured them that his government would keep prioritising their welfare and roles in governance.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the presentation was in appreciation of the monarchs’ efforts in promoting peace, unity, and community development across the state.
He thanked the governor for keeping his promise to improve the welfare of traditional rulers and urged the beneficiaries to put the vehicles to good use.
In his response, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, expressed deep appreciation, describing the gesture as a worthy recognition of the traditional institution.
He pledged that the monarchs would remain steadfast partners in progress with the state government.
