Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has extended warm felicitations to former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on the occasion of his 91st birthday.
In a statement issued in Jos by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, the governor described Gowon as a symbol of unity, peace, and exemplary leadership whose contributions to national stability remain timeless.
Mutfwang noted that Gowon’s visionary leadership and unwavering patriotism were instrumental in safeguarding Nigeria’s unity during a defining period in the nation’s history.
“It is with deep gratitude and great admiration that I join millions across the world to celebrate Gen. Yakubu Gowon on his 91st birthday,” he said.
“He stands as a father figure and beacon of peace to countless Nigerians, a statesman whose life continues to inspire purposeful leadership and genuine national cohesion.”
The governor commended Gowon’s statesmanship during and after the civil war, praising his wisdom, diplomacy, and strong commitment to reconciliation.
He highlighted Gowon’s historic post-war declaration of “No Victor, No Vanquished” as a lasting symbol of peace and forgiveness that helped rebuild national trust.
Mutfwang also lauded the success of the Reconciliation, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation initiative, which restored hope and unity among Nigerians after the conflict.
He expressed appreciation for Gowon’s enduring service to humanity and prayed for continued strength, good health, and divine blessings upon the elder statesman.
