A 25-year-old man named Kehinde Abiodun appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday, facing charges of felony and theft for allegedly stealing N50,000 while being interrogated at a police station.
Abiodun, whose address was not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, informed the court that the incident occurred on October 7 at the Morogbo Police Station along the Badagry Expressway, Lagos. According to Ekpo, Abiodun stole N50,000 belonging to Ms. Rebecca Immosemi during his interrogation.
Ekpo also stated that Abiodun was initially brought to the station in connection with a separate case involving conspiracy to steal property worth N121,000 belonging to Usman Mohammed.
The prosecutor added that the accused was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution, citing violations of Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted bail to Abiodun in the amount of N500,000, with two sureties of similar value. One surety must be a community leader.
The case was adjourned until October 22 for mention.
