The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with separate cases of child rape, assault on a police officer, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Damaturu.
According to him, operatives of Nguru Division arrested two suspects — Jarma Hussaini Adam, 25, and Mohammed Abdusalam, 16, both from Sabon Garin Kanuri in Nguru Local Government Area — for allegedly attacking a police corporal, Amani Ali, while he was on guard duty at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, on Friday.
The officer was reportedly found unconscious and bleeding after the attack, with his rifle stolen. A swift tactical operation led to the recovery of the firearm, ammunition, and other items. Abdulkarim confirmed that the officer is now recovering, while the suspects remain in custody.
In a separate incident, personnel of Damaturu ‘A’ Division arrested a suspected armed herder, Ibrahim Alhaji Ahmadu, 24, of Dusuwa Village, following a farmer’s report that he had trespassed on his farm and threatened him with a firearm. A shotgun and live rounds were recovered from the suspect.
Similarly, operatives in Potiskum arrested 19-year-old Dahiru Ali of Hayin Kwari for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in the Mutawassada area. Investigations further revealed that he had previously assaulted another child of the same age in the neighborhood. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes.
Reacting to the arrests, Yobe Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the acts, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime. He urged parents to be vigilant in safeguarding their children and called on residents to provide timely and credible information to support police efforts.
