The Rotary Club of Naraguta has donated 1,000 textbooks to five primary schools in Jos to support education and promote a reading culture among children.
The club’s president, Dr. Afam Achoru, announced the donation on Thursday in Jos, describing it as part of Rotary’s ongoing commitment to improving literacy and empowering young learners.
Achoru said the initiative was driven by the need to strengthen foundational learning, particularly in communities where children have limited access to quality reading materials.
“Basic literacy is one of Rotary’s key areas of focus. By donating these textbooks, we hope to equip our children with the tools they need to learn, dream, and succeed,” he said.
He reaffirmed the club’s dedication to investing in education, stressing that empowering children through literacy remains one of the most effective ways to secure a brighter future for society.
Mrs. Kaneng Chollom, Headmistress of LEA Kwang Progressive Primary School, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiary schools, described the gesture as timely and impactful.
Chollom noted that the current economic crunch has made it difficult for many parents to buy textbooks for their children.
“These textbooks will not only ease the burden on parents but also inspire pupils to take their studies more seriously,” she said, adding that the donation would significantly improve teaching and learning outcomes.
She appealed to other organisations and well-meaning individuals to emulate the Rotary Club’s example in supporting education.
