Lagos fire incidents: NIA promises prompt claims payment

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has extended condolences to individuals, families and businesses affected by the Sept. 16 fire incidents at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NIA Chairman Kunle Ahmed expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property, assuring victims of the industry’s commitment to financial recovery.

“The Nigerian Insurers Association extends its heartfelt condolences to all individuals, families, and businesses affected by the tragic fire incidents that occurred at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza.
“We deeply mourn the loss of lives and property and stand in solidarity with those who are grieving and rebuilding in the aftermath of this unfortunate event,” Ahmed said.

He disclosed that the association had identified member companies that provided insurance cover for the affected buildings and assured that losses under valid policies would be duly compensated by the respective insurers.

Ahmed further urged Nigerians and business owners to embrace insurance as an essential risk management tool, noting that the importance of insurance in mitigating unforeseen events “cannot be overstated.”

“As the umbrella body for insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, we remain committed to upholding our promise of protection and financial recovery in times of crisis,” he added.
