Kebbi State upgrades Fati Lami Maternity, commissions new facility

The Kebbi State Government has moved the Fati Lami Maternity Unit to a newly upgraded facility within the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, as part of efforts to strengthen maternal healthcare services.

Dr. Shehu Nuhu-Koko, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Chief Medical Director of the hospital, disclosed this to journalists after inspecting the renovated unit on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

He explained that the development followed Governor Nasir Idris’ directive to improve healthcare delivery through massive investments and infrastructure upgrades.

According to him, the relocation of the maternity section will provide a more conducive environment for patients and health workers while boosting overall efficiency.

“The new ward is more spacious and better equipped. It allows us to run two simultaneous operations in the theatre, which will improve response time and save more lives,” he said.

Nuhu-Koko added that the state government is already upgrading six hospitals across the four Emirates of Kebbi State, with Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital among those receiving attention.

He further noted that the expansion became possible after some hospital departments were relocated to the Kebbi Medical Centre in Kalgo.

He assured residents that the state government would continue to sustain initiatives designed to close healthcare gaps and deliver quality services across the state.
