Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has formally recruited 4,315 former Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) volunteer teachers into the state’s permanent and pensionable teaching service.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
At a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Governor Yusuf presented appointment letters to the newly recruited teachers and urged them to demonstrate dedication, integrity, and commitment to shaping the character of their pupils.
He noted that the move builds on previous recruitments approved by his administration, including 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025—all absorbed into the state’s workforce from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme.
According to Yusuf, these consistent recruitments underscore his government’s determination to rescue and reform the education sector in Kano State.
To further strengthen the system, he announced plans to employ an additional 2,616 teachers.
The governor also launched a ₦200 million vehicle loan scheme, approved the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to enhance school monitoring and evaluation, and directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils.
In addition, another school in Ungogo Local Government Area will be upgraded into a boarding facility, while 17,000 watchmen will be engaged across schools in the state to boost security.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that his administration’s reforms were already yielding results, citing Kano’s record performance as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination.
