UNN Bans Social Activities Beyond 6 p.m. After Campus Tragedy

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has prohibited all social activities on campus from extending beyond 6 p.m.

The directive was announced in a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu. According to the university, the decision followed the tragic incident of September 12, when businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death during a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

The statement explained that the event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community, leading to the violence.

Going forward, UNN management said all student social events must take place strictly during daytime hours and under the supervision of the university’s security unit.

“The university will no longer permit any social gatherings beyond 6:00 p.m. on campus,” the statement read.

The institution further assured the public that it remains committed to safeguarding lives and property on its campuses and will continue to take necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
