Benue Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Weapons

The Benue State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Liambe Orpine, and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a jackknife, and three locally made dane guns.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday in Makurdi.

According to the statement, operatives of Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF) acted on credible intelligence on Friday about a robbery gang operating in Gboko Local Government Area. Acting swiftly, the team stormed a hideout in Gboko East where Orpine, 35, from Anvambe in Buruku LGA, was apprehended. Other members of the gang reportedly escaped on sighting the operatives.

Recovered items from the hideout included an AK-47 rifle, one jackknife, and three locally fabricated firearms.

The suspect is currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, praised the JTF operatives for their swift response and reassured residents of the command’s continued commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the state.
