Filmmaker faults sponsoring lady’s education in expectation of marriage

Nigerian filmmaker, Ugezu Ugezu, has faulted the idea of sponsoring a lady’s education with the expectation of marrying her, urging men to stop nursing such idea to avoid heartbreaking situation.

The renowned filmmaker and actor took to his social media platforms to  share this  piece of advice to men, who sponsor their women for education.

According to him, a man helping a lady through school does not mean that he must marry her. There is no guarantee  that the person will marry you after her education.

“That you paid the school fees of a maiden and assisted financially in shaping her life does not mean you must marry her.

“There are things a man must do and leave for the universe.’ Ife Ana  Emelu Enu’.

“If she finally says no…. walk away. Echi ga bu echi oma,” he wrote.

“It has been  suggested  that it is better to marry ladies first before taking full responsibility of sponsoring their education and support them with no strings attached if you can afford it”.

Ugezu is a prominent Nigerian actor, filmmaker and musician  known for his significant contributions to the Nollywood industry and his role as a cultural commentator.

He has directed and acted in numerous films, owns the production company ‘Surplus  Entertainment Limited’.

He used his platform to discuss social and political issues in Nigeria, often focusing on preserving Igbo culture.

The actor induction into the ruling class of his hometown, Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra was achieved in January and in 2025, he  released his  Nigerian epic movie “The Sacred Price for the Throne”

He was also recognised for his cultural contributions when he received the chieftaincy title of ‘Unuku of Idu Kingdom’ in November 2022.
