The Lagos State Police Command has rejected allegations suggesting its officers are involved in partisan politics, describing such claims as false and harmful to its reputation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, stressed that police personnel are not affiliated with any political party or activity within the state.
“The suggestion by a section of a political group that our officers support one party against another is baseless and misleading,” Oluseyi said.
He explained that joint police teams—including regular officers, tactical units, and anti-riot squads—have been deployed since September 4 to patrol Alimosho Local Government Area and other parts of Lagos. The operation, he noted, is aimed at preventing crime, ensuring safety, and maintaining peace.
Oluseyi added that no political party or individual has filed any report at police stations in Alimosho or elsewhere in Lagos regarding alleged attacks or reprisals.
“The teams on duty have conducted themselves with professionalism and fairness. At no point have officers shielded political violence,” he stated.
He further highlighted that Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, had reaffirmed the command’s neutrality, noting that its primary duty remains law enforcement, protection of lives and property, and preservation of public order.
Jimoh, according to him, encouraged political actors and residents to direct genuine complaints to the police instead of spreading falsehoods intended to mislead the public.
The commissioner assured residents that all credible complaints would be handled fairly and promptly. He also appealed to the public to remain law-abiding and continue their daily activities without fear, assuring that Lagos remains peaceful.
“The command is dedicated to fairness, professionalism, and integrity in safeguarding the public,” Oluseyi concluded.
