The Ibadan Football Council (IFC) has announced that registration for the 57th edition of the Olubadan Cup will begin on Monday.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday, IFC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Alli, revealed that this year’s tournament, themed “Royal Rumble”, is designed to mark the ascension of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
He explained that registration, which will close on September 15, will be handled strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, with only 16 teams eligible to compete.
According to him, the 2025 edition will feature a straight knockout format from start to finish. “This year’s championship is specially arranged to celebrate the ascension of Oba Rashidi Ladoja to the throne of his forefathers,” he said, adding that the monarch is expected to attend the final match to highlight the significance of the event.
Alli further recalled that the Olubadan-designate has a long-standing history of supporting sports. He noted that during his tenure as Governor of Oyo State, Ladoja once watched a full football match at the Olubadan Stadium on November 28, 2004.
