The President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Mr. Muhammad Aliyu-Sirajo, has emphasised that information technology is the foundation for sustaining relevance and growth in today’s corporate world.Speaking in Lagos on Thursday at the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the Society, he noted that NCS has built a reputation as the leading professional body for IT practitioners in the country and the largest on the continent.With a membership base of more than 35,000 professionals, he said the Society had consistently championed the interests of IT experts for over 40 years.Aliyu-Sirajo added that the National Executive Council under his leadership would be deliberate, creative, and forward-looking in managing the affairs of the association.He further explained that NCS annually celebrates excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem through the National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA).This year’s edition, slated for Nov. 20 at MUSON Centre in Lagos, will spotlight achievements in areas such as cybersecurity, youth innovation, digital leadership, and corporate technology initiatives.Mrs. Shulammite Ayobami-Ilebiyi, Chairperson of NCS Publicity, Events, and Trade Services, said the awards would honour outstanding individuals, state leaders, and institutions that have made major contributions to IT growth in Nigeria and abroad.She mentioned that categories include IT Personality of the Year, Digital Governor of the Year, Youth Innovation Award, Company of the Year, Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year, and several others.According to her, the NITMA would also confer professional and honorary fellowships on members and distinguished individuals, thereby encouraging new generations of innovators to thrive in the ICT space.
