Uyo, Sept. 1, 2025 – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals—six men and one woman—on allegations of cult-related violence, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of a human skull.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Uyo by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
According to the statement, the arrests were made on August 28 by police operatives following a report filed on August 25 by a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
John stated that the complainant had been ambushed and violently attacked with dangerous weapons near Ikot Osurua by individuals suspected to be members of the banned Ku Klux Klans Confraternity. The student, who had reportedly withdrawn from the cult group, was severely injured and left unconscious. The assailants allegedly stole his Redmi 13C smartphone and ₦41,000 in cash.
Following the report, police operatives initiated an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
Items recovered during the operation included a locally fabricated short gun, seven live cartridges, a fresh human skull, a bottle containing a substance suspected to be black oil, and another bottle labeled as Guyanese oil—believed to be used for ritual purposes.
John noted that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to track down other members of the group and recover additional evidence.
