China has rolled out a series of documentaries and commemorative events to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Among the featured productions are The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru, World War II: Remembered, Reimagined, Retold, The Canvas that Speaks, and The Compass of History. According to CGTN host Huang Jiyuan, the films reflect not only historical events but also the human struggles, sacrifices, and lessons passed on to future generations.
A military parade is scheduled for September 3 to further mark the anniversary. Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu described the victory as a pivotal moment that helped China emerge from national crisis and contributed to the global fight against fascism. He added that China has since championed peace, multipolarity, and international cooperation through its foreign policy.
In Lagos, the Chinese Consulate partnered with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs to host a commemorative forum. Consul-General Yan Yuqing emphasized the importance of remembering history, honoring heroes, and safeguarding peace. She stressed that any attempt to distort historical facts or glorify militarism must be firmly rejected, noting China’s decisive role in sustaining the Eastern front during the war with support from allied nations, including African countries.
Yan reiterated that the sacrifices of the past should serve as a reminder of the value of peace and the need for mutual respect, equality, and common prosperity among nations.
