New Reality Series ‘Big Brain Naija’ Gears Up for Premiere

A new reality television show titled Big Brain Naija (#BB9JA) is set to launch, aiming to discover, celebrate, and elevate Nigeria’s most creative and intellectually gifted individuals, according to its organisers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the show is a collaborative effort between Big Brain Productions and DAAR Communications Plc.

Speaking at a press briefing and official partnership signing held on Thursday in Abuja, organisers revealed that the debut season will take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and will begin airing nationwide in October on Africa Independent Television (AIT).

Kel Ameobi, CEO of Big Brain Productions, explained that the vision behind Big Brain Naija is to merge entertainment with intelligence, offering a platform where smart, innovative youth can thrive.

“The idea is to create a show where creativity, intellect, and entrepreneurial thinking are at the forefront,” Ameobi said. “We’ve consumed so much entertainment content that lacks substance. This show is here to shift the narrative by offering a stage for meaningful ideas and real talent.”

He emphasized that the project is not just about entertainment but also about promoting national unity and showcasing Nigeria’s potential through the brilliance of its youth.

“This isn’t a show for noise or controversy—it’s a platform for innovation. It’s about celebrating young people with ideas that can drive change,” he added.

Echoing his sentiments, Marcel Anyalechi, CEO of DAAR Communications Plc, praised the initiative, describing it as a welcome addition to the entertainment landscape—one that aligns with the network’s values.

“We are proud to partner on this groundbreaking project,” Anyalechi said. “Our full range of media platforms will be used to amplify this show, both within Nigeria and beyond. We believe it will leave a lasting impact and uplift countless young Nigerians.”

Also speaking at the event, Ossai Ilome, Chief Operating Officer of Big Brain Naija, revealed that the first season will feature 37 contestants—one from each of the 36 states and the FCT.

In a unique twist, the show will feature AI-powered judges, marking a first for any African reality series. The winner will receive a grand prize of ₦30 million and a brand-new car.

Ilome stressed the importance of changing the perception of Nigerian youth by highlighting their intelligence, drive, and vision.

“Nigerians are globally recognized for their ingenuity and hard work,” he said. “Unfortunately, most current reality TV formats don’t reflect these qualities. Big Brain Naija aims to change that by offering a platform that uplifts our intellectual and innovative spirit—without losing the entertainment factor.”

He concluded that the show is designed to add value not just to participants, but to the nation as a whole, reinforcing Nigeria’s reputation as a land of smart, creative, and forward-thinking people.
