Nollywood: AGN inaugurates panel for asset recovery

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the umbrella body for professional screen actors in Nollywood, has inaugurated an Asset Recovery Panel to reclaim and safeguard the guild’s lost assets.

The AGN’s National President, Dr Emeka Rollas, introduced the three-member panel to the guild’s Board of Trustees (BOT) during an interactive session held on Wednesday in Abuja. The event also doubled as the official presentation of the guild’s new national secretariat to the board.

The panel is chaired by Onwurah Ifeanyi, with Garba Muazu as secretary and Sydney Diala as a member. Rollas explained that its mandate is to identify and recover assets that have been mismanaged or wrongly appropriated over the years.

“For more than two decades, the guild has lost several valuable properties, including vehicles, furnished offices, equipment, landed assets, and other resources, often due to mismanagement or wrongful appropriation by former leaders,” Rollas said. He added that the panel will work closely with relevant government agencies such as the Police, EFCC, and ICPC to recover these assets and prevent future misappropriation.

He noted that the initiative would restore accountability and integrity within the guild while deterring future abuses. Rollas, who is currently serving his final tenure as president, also announced that a National Electoral Committee (AGNEC), established by the BOT, has been inaugurated to oversee the guild’s forthcoming national elections.

Reflecting on his tenure, Rollas expressed gratitude to the BOT for their unwavering support, which he said provided an enabling environment for his leadership. He highlighted some of the guild’s achievements under his administration, including the introduction of a retail health management plan to give members access to affordable healthcare and the launch of the AGN Super App, designed to provide members with rewards, opportunities, and essential information.

“We have fostered unity, healed divisions, and restored a sense of family among our members,” Rollas said. “Our guild has become more visible and respected both nationally and internationally.”

In his remarks, BOT Secretary Sonny McDon commended Rollas and his team for their dedication to repositioning the guild. “We are proud of your efforts and achievements. Against all odds, you have delivered on expectations, and we fully support your administration,” he said.
