The new Head of Service in Enugu State, Dr. Godwin Anigbo, has instructed all civil servants in the state to fully adopt e-governance and embrace a result-driven work ethic.
Dr. Anigbo issued the directive in Enugu on Friday while addressing workers shortly after assuming office.
He explained that in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of disruptive innovation, civil servants must transition from paper-based processes to digital platforms, utilizing real-time official communication tools.
“All government services will be digitalised, seamless, and designed to minimize human contact—accessible at the click of a button,” he said.
According to him, the state government has already begun training civil servants in batches on computer literacy and digital proficiency, in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector. Plans are also underway to ensure that every worker is equipped with either a computer or a smartphone to support the transition.
Dr. Anigbo stressed that digital transformation was the only way to align the state’s workforce with Governor Mbah’s development agenda, which aims to grow Enugu’s economy from $4 billion to $30 billion within six years.
“The era of bureaucracy and unnecessary delays is over. We are building a civil service that is proactive, innovative, and able to deliver at digital speed,” he noted.
He further charged civil servants to align with government policies, programmes, and projects, ensuring they create measurable impact in the lives of Enugu residents.
To drive accountability, Dr. Anigbo said he would introduce timelines and measurable performance indicators across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
On welfare, he assured workers that their well-being would remain a top priority, adding that more incentives would be introduced to motivate productivity.
“Governor Mbah has already shown commitment by approving an N80,000 minimum wage and other welfare packages. Coming from the private sector, he is focused on results, and I am confident more will be achieved once the civil service becomes fully result-oriented,” he said.
