The coach of the Nigeria Under-18 Girls’ beach volleyball team, Kayode Ajilore, said that the team is determined to finish on the podium.
The coach said this after his team`s 2-0 win against Algeria in their second match at the ongoing 2025 CAVB Beach Volleyball U18 Boys and Girls Continental Championship in Abuja.
The Nigerian girls in Pool 1won the first set 21-13 and the second set 21-19 to record their second win
Speaking after the match, Ajilore said he was impressed with the performance of the girls, adding that the target of the team is to finish on the podium and make the country proud.
“We are currently topping the table of our pool and the girls are determined to make the country proud at the end of the tournament.
“We have one last pool match to play against Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday (today), and we are confident that we will do our best to win the match.
“We will proceed to qualify for the quarterfinals. The girls are ready to fight to finish on the podium at the end of the championship,” he said.
Senegal lost to Morocco 1-2, and Burundi beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1.
In the male category, DR Congo defeated Nigeria in Pool 2 2-0. Gambia defeated Nigeria in Pool 3, 2-0, while Nigeria in Pool 1 defeated the Benin Republic, 2-0, and Morocco in Pool 1 defeated Burundi, 2-0.
NAN reports that some of the participating teams, including the host Nigeria, are classified in Pools 1, 2 and 3.
The countries participating in the championship include Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Burundi, Zambia, Gambia, Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.
The championship, which started on Aug. 1, is expected to end on Aug. 7.
