Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Set to Graduate 48,360 Students at Combined Convocation

Nasarawa, June 26, 2026 – Preparations are in top gear at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa as the institution gets set to celebrate the graduation of 48,360 students during its 11th combined convocation ceremony scheduled for June 27.

The Rector, Dr Hauwa Muhammad, disclosed this on Friday during a media briefing in Nasarawa, explaining that the convocation would cover graduates from the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions.

Providing a breakdown of the figures, she said 5,900 National Diploma (ND) and 2,050 Higher National Diploma (HND) students graduated during the 2021/2022 academic session.

For the 2022/2023 session, the institution recorded 8,767 ND graduates and 1,976 HND graduates.

She further stated that 10,158 students earned National Diplomas in the 2023/2024 academic session, while 3,153 completed their Higher National Diploma programmes.

According to the rector, the 2024/2025 academic session produced 9,743 ND graduates and 6,613 HND graduates.

She noted that the cumulative figure for the four academic sessions stands at 34,568 National Diploma graduates and 13,792 Higher National Diploma graduates, bringing the overall total to 48,360 graduands.

Muhammad also announced that seven prominent Nigerians would receive the institution’s Fellowship Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

Those listed for the honour include the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Emmanuel Akabe; the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad; and Senator Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West.

Others are Mr Fuad Laguda, Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education; the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, retired Justice Sidi Bage; Prof. Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE); and Mr Aliyu Tijani, Federal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

As part of activities marking the convocation, a lecture titled “Integrating Skills with Emerging Technologies for Optimal Productivity in the 21st Century” will be delivered by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr Kashifu Abdullahi.

The event will be followed by a convocation and award dinner at the Muhammadu Buhari Multipurpose Hall, where deserving members of staff will also be recognised for their contributions to the institution.

Speaking on achievements recorded under her administration, the rector reaffirmed the commitment of the governing council and management to strengthening the institution’s role in national development.

She stated that efforts have focused on improving infrastructure, enhancing staff capacity, and sustaining a peaceful academic environment through inclusive leadership.

Muhammad revealed that the institution recently secured approval from the NBTE to introduce more than 25 new academic programmes designed to address emerging societal and industry needs.

She added that approval was also obtained to increase admission capacities in several existing programmes, enabling more qualified candidates to access technical and vocational education.

The rector further disclosed that six additional postgraduate programmes had been approved through the institution’s affiliation with Nasarawa State University, Keffi, creating more opportunities for advanced learning and professional development.

Highlighting recent partnerships, she said the polytechnic had entered into a strategic collaboration with Ganfeng Lithium, a Chinese firm, aimed at expanding industrial training opportunities for both students and staff.

According to her, the partnership will expose beneficiaries to modern technologies, international best practices and industry-relevant skills that will improve their competitiveness in the global workforce.

The forthcoming convocation, she noted, reflects the institution’s continued growth and its determination to produce highly skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national and economic development.
