NYSC Urges Corps Members in Oyo to Observe Curfew, Assures Them of Safety

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members serving in Oyo State to fully comply with the state government’s curfew directive as part of efforts to maintain safety and order.

The Oyo State Government had earlier announced a 16-hour curfew covering 10 local government areas around the Old Oyo National Park, following rising security concerns in the affected communities.

According to the government’s directive, the restriction, which takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial 48-hour period. The announcement was contained in a memo issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

In a statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday by the NYSC Oyo State Public Relations Unit, corps members were instructed to remain indoors during curfew hours.

The State Coordinator of NYSC in Oyo, Kayode Peters, explained that the guidance was necessary to ensure public safety, security, and the maintenance of law and order.

He noted that concerns expressed by some corps members following the announcement were understandable, given the circumstances, but assured that there was no need for panic.

Peters added that security agencies were working closely with the state government to protect lives and property across the affected areas.

He advised corps members, particularly those within the impacted communities, to stay calm, remain vigilant, and strictly follow all official directives.

He emphasized that complying with the curfew was both a civic responsibility and a precautionary measure to ensure personal safety.

The coordinator also reassured parents and guardians that the NYSC was in continuous communication with relevant stakeholders and was closely monitoring the situation alongside security agencies.

He further stated that measures were being put in place to guarantee the safety and welfare of corps members throughout the duration of the curfew, while urging them to remain committed to their duties and cooperate with authorities despite the temporary restrictions.
