Sandamu (Katsina State), June 23, 2026 — About 5,600 learning kits have been distributed to vulnerable adolescent boys and girls across 10 public secondary schools in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Jibia, made this known on Tuesday during the distribution exercise held at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Fago, where 500 of the kits were formally presented.
The programme was implemented by Save the Children International (SCI) Nigeria with support from the Cuppy Foundation, aimed at improving access to basic learning materials for students in underserved communities.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Schools (Junior), Kabir Dodo, said the beneficiaries received school bags, exercise books, pens and other essential educational materials.
He explained that the intervention was designed to ease financial pressure on parents, improve school attendance and enhance learning outcomes among vulnerable children in the area.
Jibia commended Save the Children International, the Cuppy Foundation and other development partners for their continued support to the education sector in Katsina State.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Dikko Radda’s administration to strengthening inclusive and quality education through strategic partnerships.
According to him, the benefiting schools include GJSS Fago, GJSS Sandamu, GJSS Kwasarawa, GJSS Rijiyar Tsamiya, GSS Kagare, GJSS Lemon, GJSS Tsadoji, GJSS Karkarku, Smart School Kwasarawa and GJSS Katsayal.
Earlier, the Principal of Government Day Junior Secondary School, Fago, Bishir Salisu, confirmed that the 5,600 school bags and other materials had been shared among the 10 participating schools in the area.
He added that SCI was also running complementary education programmes such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), Reading Club, Safe Space initiative, and School Father and Aunty schemes to support learners’ academic performance and welfare.
The SCI Education Officer, Abubakar Sadiq-Fema, explained that the learning materials were funded by the Cuppy Foundation with support from philanthropist Femi Otedola.
He noted that the intervention began in Rimi Local Government Area in 2019, later expanded to Sandamu, and is expected to continue until 2031.
Representatives of the Sandamu Local Government Education Authority, traditional leaders and School-Based Management Committees commended the initiative and pledged their continued support for its success.
The distribution exercise concluded with appreciation from stakeholders for the sustained efforts to improve education outcomes in the region.
