Woman Arraigned Over Alleged N1.9 Million Daily Contribution Scam

Ibadan, June 23, 2026 — A 26-year-old woman, Wuraola Ademola, has been brought before the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan over allegations of defrauding a contributor of N1.9 million through a daily savings scheme.

Ademola denied the two charges of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing when the charges were read to her.

Following her plea, the court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like amount.

The court directed that the sureties must be blood relatives of the defendant, possess landed property within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of payment of Oyo State taxes for the past three years.

The case was subsequently adjourned until July 29 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the alleged offences occurred on Jan. 30 at Ogunlana Drive, Asi-Bodija, Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, the matter came to light after the complainant, Mr Adekunle Isola, reported that the defendant collected N1.9 million from him through a contribution arrangement.

Ayeni explained that Ademola allegedly introduced Isola to a daily contribution scheme requiring participants to pay N50,000 each day for 10 days, after which they would receive N500,000.

He said the complainant agreed to participate after being assured that several residents in the neighbourhood were already benefiting from the arrangement.

The prosecutor further stated that after completing the initial contribution cycle, the defendant allegedly persuaded Isola to continue making payments until his total contribution reached N1.9 million.

However, Isola reportedly became uncomfortable with the continuous requests for additional payments and sought to recover his money, but was allegedly met with repeated excuses.

Ayeni told the court that the alleged actions violated Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Volume II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The matter is expected to return to court on July 29 when trial proceedings are scheduled to commence.
