Abuja, June 23, 2026 — Insurance regulators from Nigeria and Ghana have renewed their commitment to deeper collaboration aimed at strengthening the insurance sector’s contribution to economic development and regional integration across Africa.
The commitment was highlighted during a working visit by Ghana’s Commissioner for Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah, to the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Discussions during the meeting centred on expanding cross-border cooperation, promoting innovation within the insurance industry and enhancing the sector’s capacity to support sustainable economic growth across the region.
Welcoming the Ghanaian delegation, Nigeria’s Commissioner for Insurance, Mr Olusegun Omosehin, stressed the importance of insurance as a key driver of economic stability and development.

Omosehin noted that insurance plays a vital role in helping individuals, businesses and governments manage risks while supporting broader development objectives.
In her remarks, Zakariah expressed gratitude for the reception accorded her delegation and reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to deepen cooperation with fellow African regulators.
She emphasised that stronger collaboration among insurance supervisory authorities on the continent would encourage innovation, widen market opportunities and improve financial inclusion for millions of Africans.
Zakariah further noted that coordinated regulatory efforts would help unlock the full potential of the insurance industry and support the growth of emerging technologies within the sector.
The engagement underscored the shared determination of both countries to harness regulatory partnerships and technological advancements to build a stronger, more integrated and resilient insurance market across Africa.
