Ikpea Supports Speedy Prosecution of Kidnap, Cultism Suspects

Senator Joseph Ikpea, who represents Edo Central Senatorial District, has expressed support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s plan to introduce a fast track judicial process for the prosecution of suspected kidnappers and cult related offenders in Edo State.

Ikpea’s position was contained in a statement issued in Benin on Friday, where he commended the governor’s recent security operations targeting criminal networks across the state.

He praised the swift rescue operation carried out on Wednesday, which led to the release of a woman abducted at the Benin Airport Road Vegetable Market and the arrest of one member of the suspected gang involved.

It would be recalled that the Edo State Police Command, alongside the governor, had on Thursday paraded several suspected kidnappers, including those linked to the market abduction incident.

During the parade, Governor Okpebholo announced plans to establish a special court system aimed at concluding trials of kidnap and cultism cases within two weeks.

The governor also pledged stricter penalties for convicted offenders and announced a reward of N10 million to the police command for their role in the successful operation.

Reacting to these developments, Senator Ikpea commended the administration’s backing of security agencies and ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime in the state.

He described the response to the Vegetable Market kidnapping as a strong signal to criminal elements that Edo State would not serve as a safe haven for illegal activities, while also reassuring residents of improved safety.

Ikpea reaffirmed his commitment to working with the state government to strengthen security in Edo Central, adding that collaboration remains essential in addressing insecurity.

He also pledged to engage fellow lawmakers from other senatorial districts to support broader security initiatives across the state.

The senator further urged residents to take an active role in supporting security efforts, stressing that community participation is vital in sustaining peace and discouraging criminal activity.

He maintained that increased vigilance among citizens would help deter crime and contribute to a safer environment across Edo State.
