Oshiomhole Rejects Allegation of Forged Signatures in Natasha Suspension Case

Abuja, June 17, 2026 – Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed claims that he accused fellow lawmakers of forging signatures in connection with the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions.

In a statement released in Abuja, the Edo North senator said his comments during a television interview were inaccurately interpreted, creating the impression that he had alleged wrongdoing involving senators’ signatures.

Oshiomhole maintained that he never stated or suggested that any signature was forged during the proceedings that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

He said his position aligns with that of the Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, who had maintained that no forgery occurred in the process.

According to Oshiomhole, no senator had approached him with concerns or complaints regarding forged signatures.

He explained that his only reference was to a committee member who reportedly observed that attendance signatures of some senators appeared alongside the committee’s final report.

The former Edo State governor stressed that interpreting his remarks as an allegation of forgery was incorrect and did not reflect what he actually said.

Oshiomhole further noted that the controversy surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension had already been resolved and that the Senate had moved beyond the matter.

He explained that the issue surfaced during a discussion about comments allegedly made by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who was said to have described the episode as one of the most regrettable moments of the 10th Senate.

Responding during the interview, Oshiomhole said that if Bamidele indeed made such a statement, it deserved attention because of the Senate leader’s reputation for measured and thoughtful remarks.

The lawmaker reiterated that he had received no information from any senator indicating that signatures were falsified and emphasised that any contrary interpretation was unfounded.

He also expressed regret if his comments were misunderstood or caused discomfort to colleagues or the Senate, reaffirming his respect for the institution and its members.
