Oyo Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for 1448H Hijrah Celebration

The Oyo State Government has announced Tuesday as a work-free day in commemoration of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.

The statement noted that the government recognises the spiritual significance of Hijrah to Muslim faithful, describing it as a major event in Islamic history marking the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Madinah in 622 AD.

It added that Hijrah is a period for reflection, prayers and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence and community values.

According to the commissioner, the declaration of a work-free day is a gesture of solidarity with the Muslim community in the state.

He encouraged Muslim faithful and residents alike to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and progress in Oyo State and across the country.

Oyelade further urged citizens to reflect on the lessons of the Hijrah and strengthen bonds of harmony, cooperation and brotherhood within their communities.

The government also expressed hope that the celebration would inspire greater commitment to peaceful living and collective development among residents of the state.
