Military Arrests Suspected ISWAP Associate in Gwoza IDP Camp

Security operatives attached to Operation Hadin Kai have detained a man suspected of aiding ISWAP/Boko Haram activities after he was allegedly caught attempting to recruit members of the Hybrid Forces in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a military operational report obtained on Monday, the suspect was arrested on Friday at the Government Secondary School Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Gwoza town.

The report indicated that the individual was believed to have links with insurgent elements operating within the Mandara Mountains axis.

Initial findings from investigators suggest that he was tasked with convincing members of the Hybrid Forces to abandon their duties and align with former colleagues who are currently in terrorist enclaves.

Security sources said the objective was to entice the personnel into a carefully planned ambush, where they would reportedly be killed and their weapons confiscated by the insurgents.

The report further revealed that the suspect had allegedly met with a Boko Haram commander based in the mountainous region before he was apprehended.

He is currently being held by troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza as investigations continue to determine the full extent of his involvement and possible connections to terrorist networks.

The development highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt insurgent recruitment activities, dismantle support structures and strengthen the integrity of local security formations across the North-East.
