Democracy Day: NBC Boss Restates Commitment to National Cohesion

Abuja, June 12, 2026 – The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has reiterated its dedication to promoting national cohesion and supporting initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The Director-General of the commission, Mr. Adamu Adaji, conveyed the message in a goodwill statement marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

According to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the commission’s Head of Information and Press Unit, Mrs. Chinwe Udouwem, Adaji congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and commended the nation’s democratic progress over the past 27 years.

He noted that under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, efforts to strengthen democratic institutions have continued, with a focus on national integration, security, and sustainable development.

Adaji described Democracy Day as an important occasion for reflecting on the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic governance and for renewing commitment to peace, justice, and nation-building.

He said the commission recognises the crucial role of effective boundary management in maintaining stability, enhancing governance, and fostering cordial relationships among communities as well as neighbouring countries.

The director-general added that the NBC remains focused on resolving boundary-related disputes through peaceful means while encouraging cooperation across borders.

He further urged citizens to embrace dialogue, tolerance, patriotism, and mutual understanding as essential values for strengthening the country’s unity and development.

Adaji expressed confidence that continued collective efforts by government institutions and citizens would help build a more peaceful, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
