SWAN, Anambra FA End Two-Year Dispute

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, and the Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) have formally ended their two-year disagreement, paving the way for renewed cooperation in sports development in the state.

The resolution was announced in a joint statement signed by SWAN Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, and AnSFA Chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi, on Monday in Awka.

Both parties agreed to withdraw all pending complaints and petitions previously filed against each other, including those submitted to security agencies.

The reconciliation marks the end of a prolonged faceoff between the two bodies, which had lasted for over two years.

Anaso described the agreement as a significant breakthrough for sports journalism and football administration in Anambra, noting that the reconciliation came without external mediation.

He acknowledged that the dispute had led to unintended setbacks but said the resolution represents a fresh start for sports development in the state.

According to him, the outcome was achieved naturally over time, adding that stakeholders remained committed to restoring unity within the sports sector.

He also expressed appreciation to SWAN members in the state and the association’s national leadership for their support during the period of disagreement.

The SWAN Vice President for the South-East zone, Ikem Asika, welcomed the truce, describing it as a necessary step for progress in the sporting ecosystem.

He noted that sports and the media are closely connected and said the resolution would strengthen collaboration in promoting football.

AnSFA Chairman, Iloenyosi, also expressed satisfaction over the reconciliation, recalling his previously cordial relationship with members of SWAN.

He said he was pleased that the misunderstanding had been resolved and pledged to work closely with SWAN moving forward.

Iloenyosi added that all grievances had been set aside and emphasized the importance of unity in advancing football development in Anambra State.

The resolution is expected to improve coordination between sports administrators and journalists in the state going forward.
