Mararaba, Nasarawa State, June 5, 2026 — An Upper Area Court sitting in Mararaba has received a petition from an eight-month pregnant housewife, Halima Yusuf, seeking confirmation of the dissolution of her marriage.
Yusuf accused her husband, Isah, of domestic violence, alleging that he subjected her to repeated physical abuse.
She also told the court that her husband failed to provide basic needs, including food, clothing, and medical care.
According to her, the marriage was contracted under Islamic (Sharia) law.
The petitioner said she is currently eight months pregnant and has been living with her parents in Mararaba due to the alleged neglect and abuse.
She urged the court to formally confirm the divorce and compel her husband to take responsibility for her pregnancy.
Presiding Judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the matter until June 11 for hearing.
