Abuja, June 5, 2026 — The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has refuted reports alleging a kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School in the Gbagalape area of Abuja, describing the claims as unverified.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
Adeh said officers from the Nyanya Division received a distress call around 10:30 a.m. reporting a suspected kidnapping at the school.
She explained that the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed personnel and surveillance teams to the location upon receiving the alert.
Preliminary findings, however, indicated that panic broke out after pupils began shouting “kidnappers,” which led to a sudden rush out of the school premises and confusion among teachers and residents.
According to her, the school was subsequently cordoned off and thoroughly searched by responding officers.
She added that after extensive checks and questioning of individuals within and around the school, no evidence of a kidnapping was found, no suspect was identified, and no victim was discovered.
Security teams also searched nearby hills, boundaries, adjoining areas, and neighbouring schools as a precautionary measure, but no signs of criminal activity were detected.
The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports capable of causing panic in the community.
It also advised members of the public to report suspicious activities or emergencies to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
