ISPON calls for enhanced collaboration with NSCDC on safety enforcement

Lokoja, June 3, 2026 — The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has called for a strategic partnership with the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to strengthen the enforcement of safety standards across the state.

This appeal was made by the Kogi State Chairman of ISPON, Friday Sani, during a courtesy visit to the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Ebenezer Aletan, in Lokoja.

Sani explained that many workplace and environmental incidents leading to injuries, deaths, and property damage could be avoided if established safety guidelines were strictly observed. He stressed that effective compliance with safety regulations remains key to preventing avoidable disasters.

He further stated that the mandate of the NSCDC closely aligns with ISPON’s objectives, making collaboration between both bodies necessary for improved safety outcomes. He also urged the corps to strengthen continuous training and retraining of its personnel in safety management practices, noting that improved awareness would help reduce preventable accidents.

Sani also acknowledged the efforts of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, for his support toward safety initiatives and commitment to promoting adherence to safety standards within the state.

In his response, NSCDC Commandant Ebenezer Aletan described safety as a critical foundation for trust, stability, and effective risk control. He emphasized that prevention remains the most reliable approach to protecting lives and safeguarding vital infrastructure.

Aletan noted that the NSCDC’s responsibility for securing critical national assets aligns with ISPON’s mission and assured the institute of the command’s willingness to work together in promoting compliance with safety regulations.

He also called for sustained public awareness campaigns on safety matters and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to strengthening safety culture and reducing avoidable incidents across the state.
