Abuja, June 3, 2026 – A routine troop rotation under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) welfare flight programme has seen a total of 332 military personnel moved into and out of the North-East theatre of operations.
An operational update obtained on Wednesday indicated that the first welfare flight for June transported 174 personnel into Operation Hadin Kai, while 158 personnel were flown out.
The movement was carried out using a chartered ValueJet aircraft and was completed without any incident.
Military authorities said the welfare flight initiative is designed to enhance troop morale, improve efficiency, and support operational effectiveness in active combat zones.
They noted that a total of 33,097 personnel have so far been conveyed through the programme since its introduction.
The COAS welfare flight scheme was established to strengthen troop welfare and ensure smoother rotation of personnel, particularly in high-risk operational areas such as the North-East.
It provides airlift support for the movement of soldiers into and out of theatres of operation, reducing the risks and strain associated with long-distance road travel.
The programme also facilitates timely deployment and redeployment of personnel while supporting logistics coordination across military formations.
Officials say the initiative has significantly improved manpower management and contributed to sustained operational readiness in counter-insurgency operations.
