The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has commended Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, and Governor Francis Nwifuru for their continued support for journalists and efforts toward strengthening the relationship between government institutions and the media.
The commendation was made during the presentation of an 18-seater bus donated by Umahi to the Correspondents’ Chapel at the Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre in Abakaliki.
Speaking at the event, the NUJ Chairman in Ebonyi, Comrade Samson Nwafor, described the donation as another demonstration of Umahi’s commitment to the welfare of journalists in the state.
Nwafor recalled that Umahi had previously donated a similar bus while serving as governor of Ebonyi State, adding that the latest gesture would further support journalists in carrying out their duties effectively.
According to him, the vehicle would enhance mobility for media practitioners covering projects of President Bola Tinubu across the Southeast as well as development projects being executed by Governor Nwifuru in Ebonyi State.
The NUJ chairman also praised Governor Nwifuru for maintaining a peaceful and enabling environment for journalists to operate freely without intimidation or interference.
He assured both leaders that journalists in the state would continue to uphold professionalism and objective reporting while supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity and development.
Nwafor urged media practitioners to remain committed to ethical journalism and avoid sensational reports capable of creating tension or misunderstanding within society.
He also applauded members of the Correspondents’ Chapel for resolving internal disputes amicably and sustaining unity and professionalism within the union.
Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Uchenna Inya, also expressed appreciation to Umahi and Nwifuru for what he described as their consistent goodwill toward journalists in the state.
Inya pledged continued collaboration with government officials while ensuring balanced coverage of government programmes, projects and policies.
He further commended the leadership style of the state NUJ chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor, describing his approach as supportive and unifying.
The event was attended by journalists, government officials, stakeholders and other dignitaries, who also praised the cordial relationship between the media and government institutions in Ebonyi State.
