The Jigawa State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children against abuse, exploitation, and other harmful practices that could affect their future.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Haruna Yahaya, made this known in a goodwill message issued in Dutse on Thursday to commemorate the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
He noted that the police joined Nigerians and the global community in observing the day dedicated to recognising the rights, welfare, and development of children.
Yahaya extended warm greetings to children across Jigawa State and the country, describing them as the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous society.
He also acknowledged the potential, creativity, intelligence, and leadership qualities in children, reaffirming the command’s resolve to protect them from all forms of abuse.
According to him, the command will continue to strengthen community policing, school protection strategies, and child-friendly policing approaches.
He added that these efforts would be implemented in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure a safe environment where children can learn, grow, and achieve their aspirations.
The police chief urged children to remain disciplined, focused on their education, and steer clear of criminal activities that could jeopardise their future.
He also called on parents and guardians to instil strong moral values in their children, stressing that child protection remains a shared responsibility.
Yahaya wished all children in Jigawa State and across Nigeria a peaceful and joyful Children’s Day celebration.
