Ogun Police Deploy 2,500 Officers for Ojude Oba Festival Security Operations

Abeokuta, May 28, 2026 — The Ogun State Police Command has announced the deployment of more than 2,500 personnel alongside operational equipment to ensure tight security and peaceful celebration of the 2026 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu-Ode.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, made this known in a statement released on Thursday in Abeokuta by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Ojajuni said the deployment was part of proactive security arrangements designed to guarantee safety, effective crowd management, and a hitch-free celebration of the annual cultural event.

He explained that the officers deployed include conventional police personnel as well as tactical units such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and other specialised formations.

According to him, the operation is supported with Armoured Personnel Carriers, patrol vehicles, motorcycles, surveillance teams, undercover operatives, and rapid response squads positioned across key locations in Ijebu-Ode and surrounding areas.

He added that security coverage would extend to the festival venue, major highways, entry and exit routes, hotels, worship centres, markets, motor parks, recreational spots, residential areas, and other strategic points.

Ojajuni said the exercise is aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing, improving traffic control, enhancing visibility policing, preventing crime, and ensuring quick response to any security threats.

He further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical team leaders to maintain high alertness, intensify patrols, and carry out coordinated stop-and-search operations where necessary.

Strategic monitoring, he noted, has also been extended to major routes such as the Sagamu Interchange, Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway, Molipa axis, and neighbouring communities to prevent criminal activities and traffic disruptions.

The police commissioner urged officers involved in the operation to remain professional, courteous, and respectful of citizens’ rights while performing their duties.

He also confirmed that the command has strengthened collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, transport unions, event organisers, and other stakeholders to improve intelligence sharing and security coordination during the festival.

Ojajuni warned individuals with criminal intentions to stay away from the state, stressing that the police are fully prepared to respond decisively to any attempt to disrupt public peace.

He called on residents, visitors, and festival participants to remain law-abiding, alert, and security conscious throughout the celebration period.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring a safe and peaceful environment across Ogun State.
