Children’s Day: FG restates commitment to inclusive education and child development

The Federal Government has restated its resolve to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality and inclusive education, irrespective of social background or physical ability.

This assurance was given in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration organised by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The event brought together pupils from various schools across the country and featured young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe.

Alausa described Children’s Day as a moment to celebrate the creativity, strength, and potential of Nigerian children, while also emphasizing the importance of sustained investment in their education and overall wellbeing.

He said the celebration reflects the objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on child development, inclusive learning, youth empowerment, and improved access to quality education.

According to him, “Every Nigerian child should feel valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential, regardless of background or circumstances.”

The minister praised Osadebe for her advocacy work in raising awareness about inclusion for children living with disabilities and autism.

He noted that her efforts are helping to deepen national conversations around empathy, equal opportunity, and social inclusion for all children.

Alausa encouraged children to believe in themselves, nurture their talents, and contribute positively to society.

He stressed that children remain central to the nation’s future and must be given the right environment to learn, grow, and succeed.

The minister further assured that the government remains committed to supporting children by creating safe and enabling learning environments across the country.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s determination to strengthen policies and programmes that promote inclusive education, child protection, and equal opportunities for every child.
