Nigerian Navy at 70: FOB Badagry Organises Outreach for Orphanage Homes

The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Badagry, on Tuesday carried out a community outreach programme at Hephzibah Homes, Ibereko, as part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.

Speaking at the event, the Commanding Officer of FOB Badagry, Navy Capt. Sa’id Kabir, said the initiative reflected the Navy’s commitment to humanitarian service and strengthening ties with host communities.

He noted that the anniversary celebration was not only about operational achievements but also about giving back to the communities that support the Navy’s presence.

According to him, the outreach was especially timely, coming ahead of Children’s Day, as it provided an opportunity to bring joy to children in the orphanage through acts of kindness and support.

Kabir explained that the programme was part of the Navy’s efforts to deepen civil-military cooperation while extending assistance to vulnerable groups. He added that the gesture was intended to encourage the children and reassure them of a hopeful future despite their current circumstances.

He stressed that every child deserves a safe, loving, and supportive environment that allows them to grow, learn, and pursue their aspirations without limitations.

Items distributed during the outreach included rechargeable lamps, school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, water bottles, and other educational supplies packaged in customised back-to-school kits.

The Commanding Officer further stated that the future of the country depends on the well-being and development of its younger population, noting that proper care and support systems help shape responsible and productive adults.

He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to not only safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment and national assets but also contributing to the social welfare and development of citizens.

Kabir also assured residents of continued support and engagement by the Navy in promoting peace, progress, and community development.

In her response, the Head Caregiver at Hephzibah Homes, Mrs Chinyere Okafor, who represented the Director, Mrs Konsit Eka, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the thoughtful gesture.

She noted that some of the children in the home were abandoned, while others were referred by social welfare officials. She also assured that the donated items would be put to good use.

The children and staff of the home received rechargeable lamps, school materials, and other educational supplies as part of the outreach programme.
