Lagos, May 26, 2026

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State has selected its State Chairman, Mr Femi Olaniyi, as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in the state.

Olaniyi, a former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lagos State, was affirmed during the party’s gubernatorial primary held in Somolu, Lagos.

The exercise was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chairman of the SDP Governorship Primary Electoral Committee in Lagos, Primate Henry Amike, announced that Olaniyi, popularly known as “Ferrari,” was unanimously endorsed by delegates and stakeholders from the state’s 20 local government areas.

He stated that the process complied with both the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines, noting that the consensus decision followed due procedure.

Amike subsequently declared Olaniyi as the duly nominated candidate of the SDP for the 2027 Lagos governorship race.

Earlier, Chairman of the SDP Governorship Screening Committee in the state, Chief Adegboyega Adeniji, described Olaniyi as a principled and credible candidate.

According to him, the party remains confident that its platform offers a pathway to improved security, stability and development in Lagos.

In his acceptance speech, Olaniyi, who also serves as Chairman of the Forum of SDP State Chairmen in Nigeria and former South-West Zonal Secretary of the party, pledged to run a people-focused administration if elected governor.

He said his campaign would prioritise security, infrastructure development, job creation, education and healthcare.

Olaniyi described his emergence as a collective mandate from party members and residents who desire better governance and improved living conditions.

He added that his vision includes safer communities, improved public services and broader economic opportunities for Lagos residents.

He assured that security would be a top priority, promising investments in smart policing and technology-driven solutions to enhance public safety across the state.

On infrastructure, he pledged improvements in road networks, expansion of rail and water transport systems, and measures to address flooding challenges.

Olaniyi also said his administration would focus on supporting small and medium-scale businesses while creating an enabling environment for the technology and creative sectors.

He further promised reforms in education and healthcare, including the upgrading of public schools and primary health centres across all local government areas.

The SDP candidate urged residents to support the party’s vision, describing the primary as the beginning of a broader movement toward inclusive governance in Lagos State.

He added that his administration would be focused on service delivery and shared prosperity for all residents.
