Abuja, May 18, 2026 Team Nigeria wrapped up a strong outing at the Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, with another gold medal on the final day of competition on Sunday night.
The women’s 4×400m relay team comprising Esther Okon, Toheebat Jimoh, Jecinter Lawrence and Patient Okon-George delivered a commanding performance to clinch victory with a time of 3:29.25.
From the start, the Nigerian quartet controlled the race, pulling far ahead of their rivals and maintaining a comfortable lead to the finish line.
Led by experienced runner Patient Okon-George, the team finished about 30 metres ahead of the rest of the field, with Ethiopia placing second and Kenya coming third.
The result secured Nigeria’s fourth gold medal of the championships and capped a successful campaign at the 24th edition of the competition.
Overall, Team Nigeria ended the tournament with four gold medals and eight additional medals across various events, marking a solid performance at the continental meet.
