Egbin Power returns to 433MW output following maintenance work

Egbin Power Plc has resumed electricity generation at 433 megawatts (MW) following the completion of maintenance work on its cooling system.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday in Lagos by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Felix Ofulue.

Ofulue said the plant’s operations had stabilised, with generating units now running efficiently to improve electricity supply to the national grid.

He explained that the maintenance exercise was carried out to boost operational performance and ensure more reliable power generation.

“Operations have resumed and the units are working optimally. As of Wednesday morning, the plant was generating 433 megawatts to the national grid,” he said.

According to him, engineers successfully completed repairs and servicing of the cooling infrastructure, allowing a gradual return of generation across the plant’s units.

Ofulue reaffirmed the company’s commitment to operational efficiency, safety standards and increased power output.

Energy sector stakeholders noted that the restored generation level would help strengthen electricity supply and contribute to improved grid stability nationwide.

Egbin Power Plant, located in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has an installed capacity of 1,320MW made up of six generating units of 220MW each.

The facility remains the largest thermal power station in Nigeria and a key contributor to the country’s electricity supply.
